Second Hand News

secondhand3RFB
I am very excited and proud to announce that this entire outfit is all secondhand clothing and accessories. Buying clothes secondhand saves the atmosphere from further carbon pollution and the world from further chemical toxicity that would have been produced to create new clothing. Not only is my entire outfit all secondhand, but it is all made from natural fibres that will break down eventually – unlike synthetic clothing which releases plastic microfibres every time it is washed, which has lead to a massive pollution problem. I also want to mention that this entire outfit costed me around $100 Canadian. You can buy secondhand clothing, save money (and donate/spend it on things that really matter), and still look amazing! I encourage you to scout out your local thrift stores, vintage stores and Value Villages and have fun discovering treasures and embracing your true style through a more earth-friendly alternative.

Stepping Back in Time

2016tiaranromanoff-39
This is the last of the outfits that I put together for the Sasktel blog. This long vest is a favourite statement piece of mine – I love the little cross stitches. I am mixing textures with the vest and a mesh Laurie Brown shirt. My favourite part about this outfit however is the shoes. These shoes were my great aunt’s in the 1930s. So thankful that we share the same shoe size! Thank you Nicole Romanoff for your wonderful photography!

She Wore Blue Velvet

2016tiaranromanoff-33
Have you ever seen anything as beautiful as this blue velvet coat? I’m obsessed. This is part of a series of outfits I put together for my feature on the Sasktel blog. Winter style does not have to be boring with bold and unique jackets! When styling a striking jacket, stick to a monochrome outfit so it doesn’t look too busy and to allow your jacket to pop! Thank you Nicole Romanoff for your photography!

The Jean Dress

jeandress1
I drove out to this location after a thundershower – how beautiful is this scenery! We must push to preserve land like this from being covered with cement. When I first saw this vintage jean dress, I did not see it as a dress, instead I envisioned it as a cardigan. I put this ensemble together in my head, and I ended up really liking how it turned out.  All the jewelry I am wearing is locally made either in Saskatoon or within Canada! I’ve really been into layering denim lately – it creates such a unique look.

The Corpse Bride

corpsebride5
I received this dress, which dates back to the early 1900’s, from The Dress Form. I was presented with the truly incredible opportunity of breathing life back into it. As soon as I saw this dress, my first thought was of Patti Russo in this video. I cannot imagine any other way to wear this dress than white-on-white, it portrays such elegance! The love I have for vintage items grows more and more every time, the attention to detail is my favourite! I feel so privileged that I get to wear a dress that has remained in such great condition from over 100 years ago.
Thank you to Serena Liu for your wonderful photography and Untangled Hair Group for the hairstyling!

Canadian Tux

canadiantux1
Happy first day of spring! The sun is finally shining a little longer and the snow is starting to melt! I am welcoming in the new season wearing a Canadian tuxedo. First, can we talk about these jeans – I tend to be quite detail obsessed and I cannot get over how perfectly created these jeans are. My favourite detail is the little touch of corduroy. I tied the outfit together with vintage accessories, I turned a vintage key into a necklace, and paired it with this vintage metal belt. I don’t normally wear this much color, (Wednesday Addams and I get along) but I have to say I enjoyed it!

Up-Cycled Vintage Levi’s

leviupcycle1
Today I put together a very simple and relaxed summer look. On one of my usual Value Village hunts, I found a pair of Levi jeans. I decided to test my DIY skills and made them into these shorts! I paired them with a sequinned tank top. To bring them together I added this vintage leather belt, which was my mom’s in the 1980s. The sequinned shirt makes the outfit more interesting and the high wasted shorts make your legs look like they go on forever! I also added two silver bracelets to bring out the silver in the belt buckle. The lace up sandals help to add to the carefree summer look.
