Second Hand News

I am very excited and proud to announce that this entire outfit is all secondhand clothing and accessories. Buying clothes secondhand saves the atmosphere from further carbon pollution and the world from further chemical toxicity that would have been produced to create new clothing. Not only is my entire outfit all secondhand, but it is all made from natural fibres that will break down eventually – unlike synthetic clothing which releases plastic microfibres every time it is washed, which has lead to a massive pollution problem. I also want to mention that this entire outfit costed me around $100 Canadian. You can buy secondhand clothing, save money (and donate/spend it on things that really matter), and still look amazing! I encourage you to scout out your local thrift stores, vintage stores and Value Villages and have fun discovering treasures and embracing your true style through a more earth-friendly alternative.

Black Lace

At the beginning of September, I met up with Ryan Wunsch and we headed out to the Great Canadian Sandhills. We had been discussing doing this shoot for a year, and it finally happened! This is a location that I visited when I was just a little girl, and it has mystified me since. The dunes are actually quite smaller then they were 10 years ago, as the native grassland has started growing over top the dunes. However this is still such a picturesque location, and I would like to emphasize how important it is to respect this landscape.
My outfit is from Free People & the necklace is vintage. I fell in love with this dress because it reminded me of something Stevie Nicks might have worn. I like how this dress is effortlessly feminine, and how the tiered lace skirt flows around my body – and yet it still portrays an edgy look, which I am a huge fan of.

Thank you Sherene for joining me in this adventure, and thank you Ryan once again for this incredible opportunity.

Hunt of Hounds

A few weeks ago, I was on my way to the SFDF Pose rehearsal and had some time to spare, so I popped into Hazlewood Vintage. I was greeted by Sabrina and Cole, the designers behind Hunt of Hounds jewelry. I was completely mesmerized by their jewelry – as each piece is so intricate with incredible attention to detail. Their jewelry is inspired by Victorian, Baroque, Renaissance and mourning designs. Each piece has so much thought put into it, and is handmade which creates a one-of-a-kind uniqueness that is hard to come by these days.
h&h1It is pieces like this that really make the outfit. They bring character and eye-catching details that give elegance and sophistication to any outfit.

Keep Your Wallet in a Buckle

Along with summer weather finally arriving, so do outdoor concerts, events and activities. I have never enjoyed having to haul a purse around to any of these, and it seems that Wallet Buckle has found a solution to my problem! This buckle has room to store multiple cards in the back of it, eliminating the need to carry a purse or wallet around!
This buckle has tiny little gems imbedded into the buckle, providing that intricate detail that I love!

Comfy Layers & Running Shoes

Happy Back to the Future Day! I grew up watching the three movies, I am a huge fan of them and always remember being excited for this day to actually arrive. I created an outfit with running shoes, because today Nike released the Nike power laced shoes ‘Nike MAG’, as featured in the second Back to the Future film. These were the sneakers that Doc gave to Marty to wear on October 21, 2015 and today, Michael J. Fox received a pair from Nike. They are now a reality, and created with the hope to raise even more money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

I think it’s really interesting how much focus the sneakers were given in the 1989 movie, and now in 2015 (as predicted) street style is full of incorporating and making running shoes a key aspect in the overall outfit. The Nike MAG’s may not be my style exactly, but I am already lusting over these shoes, mostly because of the meaning behind them. Now all I need is a DeLorean!

Whiskey Teacup

I have had the honour to get to know Laura Crossman, a very talented designer of Whiskey Teacup quite well over the past few months! Laura excels in creating clothing with unique materials and cuts. I first became aware of Whiskey Teacup at SFDF’s Deconstructed Runway, and quickly fell in love with the unique, modern and airy designs. I am obsessed with the textiles that are chosen to create the pieces, they definitely provide a distinct recognition for the brand. I am so excited to see how quickly Whiskey Teacup is gaining popularity, and I wouldn’t mind taking home every piece! I was joined here by two stunning models, Mary Catherine and Kendra, to showcase Whiskey Teacup’s designs for the 2015 look-book!

I love this pairing of the sheer sparkly dress with this skirt! This was my favourite outfit that I got to wear. However my favourite design has to be the white top and skirt with the long tassels! So beautiful and I love the movement!

Huge thank you to Kim and Derek of Chel Studio for the photography and Chel SalonSpa for the makeup and hair! And of course to Laura for being such a delight to work with and letting us model for her look-book!
