Walking in a winter wonderland 🌟 Last night I dressed up in my secondhand duds & went out to enjoy an indoor light display courtesy of @glow_saskatoon. It was magical & very festive! My friend & I had fun going through the event and taking photos of each other. If you check this event out, bring reusable cutlery for the food options so you can avoid the single use plastic options (easy as just chucking some of your stainless steel forks into your bag with a tea towel so you can bring them home without dirtying your bag) & a reusable water bottle as there are water-fountains located throughout the building! I’ve always connected with scents. I often joke that my sense of smell is the only thing that actually works right in my body 😂 I consistently feel emotionally tied to many scents and the memories they invoke. These are the Element Ritual Mists from @alaunawhelan which are made by hand, in small batches, with the purest ingredients. They can be misted on yourself, linens, bedding, towels, or in the space around you. These ritual mists are a blend of floral waters, essential oils, grain alcohol, a natural preservative & crystal gems. EARTH represents security through grounding, strength & growth. The Earth mist takes me back to horse back riding in Cypress Hills. WATER represents femininity through intuition, flexibility & receptivity. The Water mist reminds me of visiting the Tangled Garden in Nova Scotia. ETHER represents divinity through connection, fortitude & devotion. The Ether mist made me think of a hot day at the Great Sandhills. AIR represents clarity through focus, discernment & integrity. The Air mist is fresh and uplifting, which reminded me of eating a candy cane while playing outside during recess before the holidays. FIRE represents abundance through confidence, inspiration & creativity. The Fire mist reminds me of summer evenings while camping with a fire burning in the background. In the bottom of each unique mist are different gem stones. Upon closer inspection I was thrilled to realize that these gems have holes in them, which I will definitely be upcycling into jewelry once I am done the mists! Thank you so much @alaunawhelan for these mists & I cannot wait to try out more of your amazing products 🙌🏻 For the exact scent breakdown of each mist, check out her site!

Self Care Sunday 🌹 I was gifted this Rosey Posey Clay Mask from @ashandthornherbals and it has quickly become a favourite. This clay mask is suitable for all skin types and works really well on my tricky skin (I struggle with acne, cystic acne, eczema, psoriasis, oily and dry patches). —— The Rosey Posey Clay Mask has: -Kaolin Clay (gently exfoliates & deep cleans) -Diatomaceous Earth (strengthens skin & reduces wrinkles) -Organic Rose Petals (helps skin maintain moisture) -Wild Yarrow (anti-inflammatory) -Pink Grapefruit Essential Oil (rich in antioxidants) —— To apply this clay mask, I make tea and mix it in with the mask to create a paste. I also always add local honey because honey does miracles for my skin. I mix everything using a wooden toothpick. This time around, I chose to make hibiscus tea to add to the mask. I purchased the hibiscus tea in bulk from @bulkbasket. I chose hibiscus tea because hibiscus has natural acids that can break down dead skin, exfoliate skin, increase cell turnover, and aid with controlling oily skin and acne. I store the left over hibiscus tea in the fridge and use it as an ingredient in my homemade toner. I let the clay mask dry on my face, then I wet my face in circular motions. I use a damp face cloth to remove whatever wasn’t initially rinsed off so I can save water. I have also been using this clay mask as a spot treatment on acne. My face always feels so smooth and refreshed after this mask! There is a wait list for the Rosey Posey Clay Mask as @ashandthornherbals is waiting on a sustainably-harvested batch of rose petals from a farmer! You can still place an order and when they are made they will be sent to you! Feel free to use the code “Clean Beauty” for 10% off all @ashandthornherbals products! Ash and Thorn products are made from quality herbs and natural ingredients which are sourced locally, ethically and sustainably. Ash and Thorn products and ingredients are never tested on animals. I’ve been using their products for years now and I am very impressed at the quality of their products. This is a brand I am very proud to support!
When I’m not accessorizing my secondhand outfits with vintage jewelry, I accessorize with local or sustainable jewelry instead. Luckily, @alaunawhelan creates both local & sustainable jewelry options and they are beyond beautiful. She gifted me with this stunning necklace and I haven’t taken it off since. Alauna finds her inspiration in nature and has clarified her journey through understanding how connected we are with Mother Nature. She has intertwined natural elements into all that she creates. Here I am wearing the Security, Earth Necklace. The earth element represents security through grounding, strength & growth. This necklace is handcrafted using recycled fine silver. It has a red garnet gemstone, which is a stone of passion and love. It is an energizing and regenerative stone and aids in awareness. I have an affinity for jewelry that is unique and intricate. I also love supporting brands that handcraft their items, which means that no two items are the same. I love the usage of recycled fine silver and I can feel good about supporting jewelry that is not only timeless, but will last a lifetime as well.
Here’s most of my reusable (glass or tin) containers that I’ve saved over the years from my facial products, vitamins, food & body products. I will never throw away something that still functions. Most containers these days are made of plastic, which is problematic. These plastics are usually difficult or impossible to recycle, if recycled at all. Plastic will never break down, it will only break up into smaller and smaller pieces, negatively impacting and contaminating each level of the food web. Let’s not forget that we are near the top of the food web, so we will receive the most concentrated amounts of dioxins & toxins that bioaccumulate in our food. About 80% of ocean pollution comes from packaging. Purchasing our products in reusable and refillable containers introduces many benefits: 1. it stops our throwaway culture in its tracks. Less trash: healthier environment, healthier people. It’s simple! 2. reusable containers can be continually refilled or reused. If for some reason they break or get damaged, they can be efficiently recycled (also, glass and stainless steel do not leach harmful chemicals into the products they hold – meaning you are exposed to less toxins)! Did you ever think about all of the non-renewable resources go into creating plastic and single-use packaging? They are called non-renewable resources for a reason & we are using these resources up way too quickly to maintain an efficient supply for future generations. Being environmentally responsible may seem overwhelming, however it is actually very easy to make multiple & necessary switches that will result in a positive impact! Avoid products packaged in plastic where you can and invest in products with reusable containers. I can reuse these containers for DIY projects, which I can either keep for myself or give away as gifts. I can use them to reduce the need for plastic in the kitchen & fridge. I can use them to put my bulk beauty purchases in. I can give them away to others who may not have reusable containers. The list goes on and on! Most of the basic ingredients required for DIY recipes can be purchased at @dadsorganicmarket_saskatoon or @soulfoodsgrocer or @bulkbasket
