Life in Plastic, it’s not so Fantastic

ohmywoodnessRFB1
As you all probably already know, I despise plastic. I keep looking for alternatives to everyday items that are commonly made of plastic. I lucked out when I came across these Oh My Woodness sunglasses (such a cute brandname too). These frames are made from wood & came packaged in a completely recyclable/reusable heavy duty cardboard slide box. I decided to pair them with this fun floral summer outfit.

The Chain

eljewelryRFB1
I wish I was able to find these shorts in every colour! I found them at a vintage shop in Hamilton, Ontario when I visited for a Global Water Futures conference. I am able to squeeze my waist into the very last notch in the belt, but look how small it goes – I am convinced these shorts were made for a 10 year old child! I decided to pair some gold jewelry with this outfit from Elizabeth.Lyn Jewelry & keep it simple to modernize the look! The delicate chain and earrings add to this outfit beautifully.

Warm Ways

I was waiting for the sun to come up so I had an excuse to wear yellow against yellow – also I have been having such amazing luck while thrifting lately! It is definitely a thrill that will never get old. I cannot wait to work these items into more outfits!

If I Could Turn Back Time

ificouldturnbacktimeRFB_2
If I could turn back time, if I could find a way, I’d bring back all the vintage denim or I’d probably stay. These jeans were my mom’s in the 1980s and I always laugh when I see them – the brandname is Fancy Ass – it just doesn’t get better than that. A huge thank you to Larissa Uy for her photography & for capturing the moment.

The Pack is Back

march312018RFB4
The fanny pack is back! When I brought this fanny pack home from one of my thrifting outings & showed it to my parents, I thought it was quite funny when my dad said “Hey, that is exactly like the one I used to have!”

I wish I would have had a stylish fanny pack for when I went to Norway, it would have made things so much easier! Today I am sporting a microfibre-free outfit by wearing all natural materials! I thrifted these white pants, originally they were huge flare bellbottom jeans and to make them more modern I cut and sewed them to look like jeans that are more in style today – it was ridiculously easy!

Tiara Grace

onecklaceRFB1
I have been seeing personalized jewelry on models and in street style so frequently that I decided I should join the fun. I love personalized jewelry because it offers so many layering options. I love layering necklaces as they bring so much interest to an outfit. Personalized jewelry is special because, in my opinion, it is a timeless piece that you can keep wearing throughout your life – which makes it a great statement piece instead of a fast-fad – just ensure that you make a high-quality investment that will last and keep looking good throughout the years.

Here I am wearing my personalized necklaces with an outfit that consists of completely natural materials – cotton & leather – in my efforts to reduce my own personal microfibre pollution. Natural sure does look better, on myself and on the planet!

I chose to get “Tiara” & “Grace” on my personalized necklaces because those are my first and middle names. I layered them with other necklaces I have, that happen to be vintage pieces, the options are endless! It is so fun to search for vintage pieces to incorporate into your wardrobe – make it an outing with friends & hit up some local thrift shops!

Handle With Care

leafpurseRFB1
Sustainable fashion – is there such a thing? Luckily within the past few years more and more sustainable brands have been popping up. I was quite impressed when I heard about Viahera. These bags are handmade by women in the Philippines who were victims of the typhoon Haiyan. These women are provided with employee benefits and each purchase of a bag helps to send a child to school. These bags are created with completely natural materials, consisting of pandan leaves, upcycled mahogany, organic cotton and repurposed leather – so every part of these bags will naturally biodegrade when their lifespan is over, leaving no toxic or polluting fibres behind. These one-of-a-kind bags are available for purchase here in Saskatoon, along with many other sustainable products at the Viahera storefront. You’ll be sure to find quite a few other great stores in the area as well!
