I woke up today and it was snowing, so I decided to make myself a London Fog and watch the snow fall. I had to learn how to make this steamer myself because most places don’t offer any dairy-free alternatives and I miss steamers. Also, this is a very affordable recipe. You can reuse most of the ingredients to make many more steamers! You’re probably also reducing waste as you will not need a single-use cup like you might get from a coffee shop. Remember to clean and recycle the can and to compost the used tea leaves.
This steamer is gluten-free, dairy-free and AIP compliant. Make sure you choose a tea option that is caffeine-free or decaffeinated if you have an autoimmune disease.
Ingredients & items needed
- coconut milk without any fillers (Cha’s Organics Organic Light Coconut Milk)
- loose leaf earl grey tea (David’s Tea Caffeine-Free Organic Earl Grey Rooibos tea)
- organic coconut sugar
- stainless steel pot
- loose leaf tea infuser
- Pour all the contents from the coconut milk can into a small pot
- Put the pot onto the stove top on low heat (do not overheat the milk as it could burn, it should only steam slightly and never bubble)
- Every 5 minutes whisk the coconut milk for about 30 seconds (this will create a frothy texture)
- Add in some coconut sugar to your preference (I usually add 1 tablespoon)
- When the coconut milk has warmed up, add the tea strainer with the loose leaf earl grey tea into the pot
- Let the tea steep in the coconut milk for ~6 minutes all while continuing to whisk the coconut milk (eventually the milk will turn a light brown colour due to the tea)
- Remove from the stove and pour into a mug and sprinkle a little coconut sugar on top
